Howard Lederer grew up in a family of 5 where he liked taking part in various card games at a young age. He found himself becoming really competitive in these particular card games while playing his father. After graduating from high school, Howard decided to put college on hold for a little bit and relocated to New York to participate in some big-time chess. While playing chess, he was introduced to a poker game going on in the back of the room. Howard’s first two years were tough as he played extensive hours and do not win most times. He earned some extra money by being an runner for the poker players. He judged he possibly could boost his game by analyzing his life outside of poker. He made an attempt to acquire more rest and concentrate more on poker.

The actual improvement in his skills began when he began gambling at the Mayfair Club in New York City. The Mayfair was a bridge and backgammon association where the the most favorable gamblers would regularly challenge each other. Howard was able to access some of the foremost minds in chess. He also helped his sister Annie Duke master the game of poker. Annie Duke was an excellent student of the game as she would always be asking questions about how to make the correct decision. He told Annie to move out to Vegas and compete in the WSOP tournaments. Annie is one of the strongest female players the poker world today. Howard Lederer relocated to Sin City in 1993 and played cash games for the next 10 years. When the WPT grew in popularity, Howard made the decision to compete in more tournaments.
