Phil Ivey has been referred to as the best poker player in the world by many of the top pros. Phil Ivey was born in Riverside, CA and relocated to Jersey before reaching the age of one. His papa taught him one cent-ante Five-Card Stud poker. From that point on, Phil was addicted to poker and wanted to learn every little thing he could about the game. Phil would tell his elders that he wanted to be a professional poker player. He didn’t permit the adverse comments from other people destroy his goal of being one of the greatest poker players in the world.
He began competing intently after acquiring a fake ID with the name of Jerome. He honed his game at the poker rooms in Atlantic City. The initial number of years for him were a learning opportunity and winning was not a normal outcome at the time. Phil became known at the 2000 World Series of Poker when he made two final tables and won his first WSOP bracelet, in a $2, 500 Pot-Limit Omaha event. At the final table he destroyed quite a few of the well known pros including "Amarillo Slim" Preston, David "Devilfish" Ulliot, and Phil Hellmuth, Jr.
He made a decision to take his game to the next level and headed out west to Vegas. He continues to compete in in "The Big Game" at the Bellagio with the best players in the world. Ivey credits his achievements to discipline and an eternal passion for the game of poker. Phil says that he is picking up skills every single day and is very humble about his success. He admits to making errors every single game of poker and constantly strives to get better.
Even though Ivey has won some big-time tournaments, he prefers winning cash games on a regular basis.
